Mechanism of Action
Abemaciclib is a targeted therapy categorized as a CDK4/6 inhibitor. Inside your body, proteins called CDK4 and CDK6 tell cells when it is time to replicate their DNA, grow, and divide. In hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancers, these cells are hyperactive, causing cancer cells to multiply rapidly out of control. Verzenio selectively binds to and blocks these CDK4/6 proteins, freezing the cell division process. This causes breast cancer cells to stop dividing and eventually die.

Take Verzenio exactly as your oncologist prescribes, following the instructions in the prescribing information highlights. Take twice daily, at approximately the same times each day (usually morning and evening). Swallow tablets whole. Do not crush, chew, or break them.
