Dosage

Zimed is available in the strength of 0.03%/3 ml eye solution only.

Usage

Zimed (Bimatoprost) is a prescription medication used to reduce high pressure in the eye. The eye contains a clear, watery liquid that feeds the inside of the eye. Your eye drains out the liquid and produces a new one frequently. If the liquid cannot drain out quickly enough, it causes pressure buildup in the eye. And if the eye pressure is not reduced, it can lead to a condition called glaucoma. This preservative-free medicine is an antiglaucoma preparation. Your doctor may recommend this drug on its own or in combination with other drops called beta-blockers, which also reduce pressure. The active substance in Zimed is Bimatoprost. Bimatoprost belongs to a class of medication called prostamides. It works by increasing the amount of liquid drained to reduce pressure inside the eye.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Zimed are irritation, itchy eyes, pain, dryness, longer eyelashes, and feeling like something is in your eye.

Stop using Zimed and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Loss of fat in the eye region, leading to deepening of the eyelid crease;
• Sensitivity to light;
• Slight redness;
• Tired eyes

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Bimatoprost, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Zimed comes as eye drops. The recommended dose is one drop once daily, in the evening, in each eye that needs treatment. If you use this drug with another eye medicine, wait at least 5 minutes between using Zimed and the other eye medicine. Do not use this drug more than once a day, as the effectiveness of the treatment may be reduced. Avoid touching the tip of the eye drop bottle to your eye. If you wear contact lenses, take them out before using this medicine. Throw away the bottle of Zimed at the latest 28 days after you first opened it, even if there are still some drops left. This will prevent infections. You can write down the day you opened the drug in the space on the box to help you remember. Your vision may be blurred for a short time just after using the Zimed solution. Do not drive or use machines until your sight is clear again.

Before you start using Zimed, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A history of cataract surgery;
• Breathing problems;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Low blood pressure;
• Viral infection of the eye

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Zimed will harm the unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is unknown if Zimed passes into breast milk. The use of Zimed should be avoided in children less than 18 years old. There may be a drug interaction between Zimed and other drugs, especially eye medications.
