Femoston (Dehydrogesterone/Estradiol Hemihydrate) is a prescription medication used to relieve menopause symptoms. Hot flashes are a symptom of menopause that occurs due to the drop in estrogen levels that the body produces. Femoston is also used to prevent osteoporosis after menopause. The active substances in Femoston are Dehydrogesterone and Estradiol Hemihydrate. Dehydrogesterone and Estradiol Hemihydrate belong to a class of medication called Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). They work by replacing the estrogen and progesterone in the body to relieve symptoms of menopause.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Femoston are feeling sick, tiredness, abdominal pain, breast tenderness, and back pain.

Stop using Femoston and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Heart attack;
• Painful or heavy genital bleeding;
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as breathing difficulties, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Femoston, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Femoston comes as a tablet. Swallow it whole with. Do not crush, chew, or break it. You may take this drug with or without food. Your dose will depend on your symptoms. This drug is for use in postmenopausal women for at least six months since last menses. Women who require estrogen replacement and have not had their wombs removed can also use HRT. You may experience irregular bleeding during the first three to six months of taking Femoston. If the irregular bleeding continues for more than six months, starts after six months of using the drug, or continues after you have stopped taking the medicine, contact your doctor immediately. Do not stop taking this drug without talking to your doctor. If you need to have surgery, tell your surgeon you are taking Femoston. You may need to stop taking the drug about 4 to 6 weeks before your operation to reduce the risk of blood clots.

Before you start using Femoston, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Blood clots in a vein;
• Breast cancer;
• Endometrial hyperplasia;
• Intolerance to some sugars;
• Liver disease;
• Unexplained vaginal bleeding

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Femoston may harm an unborn baby. This drug is for use in menopausal women. Dehydrogesterone and Estradiol Hemihydrate passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. The use of Femoston should be avoided in children. There may be a drug interaction between Femoston and other drugs, such as phenytoin, rifampicin, St. John’s wort, efavirenz, etc.
