Product Details

Monurol (Fosfomycin Tromethamine) is an antibiotic that fights infection caused by bacteria. It’s most often prescribed to treat bladder infections, though it can be prescribed for other uses.

Common side effects may include nausea, upset stomach, mild diarrhea, headache, dizziness, weakness, sore throat, runny nose, back pain, or vaginal itching/discharge. The serious side effects may include:

• Diarrhea that is watery or bloody
• New or worsening bladder symptoms (burning, painful urination)
• Signs of allergic reaction:
o Hives
o Difficulty breathing
o Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

You should not use Monurol if you are allergic to Fosfomycin Tromethamine. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Monurol isn’t expected to harm an unborn baby, but it can cause harm to a nursing infant. You shouldn’t breastfeed while on this medication. Children younger than 12 should not use Monurol.

Precautions

Follow your doctor’s advice and follow all medication guidelines for your medication. Use it exactly as prescribed. Monurol is usually given in only one dose. Don’t take more than one unless explicitly told to by your doctor. You can take Monurol with or without food. It’s a powder medication that must be mixed with water to dissolve and then drank immediately. Do not mix with hot water. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

There may be an interaction between Monurol and other medications. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Monurol. To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Ongoing diarrhea that is watery or bloody

Answer: Yes, Monurol is a single-dose prescription. It’s taken once and if symptoms do not improve within 3 days, you should call your doctor.

3. Is Monurol safe to take during pregnancy?
