Nitrolingual Pump Spray and Nitroglycerin at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Nitrolingual pump spray (Nitroglycerin), is manufactured by various pharmaceutical companies, including Sanofi Aventis in Canada and G. Pohl Boskamp in the United Kingdom.

Generic nitroglycerin is sourced from manufacturers that meet applicable regulatory standards. The specific manufacturer of your dispensed medication may vary.

Important Information about Generic Nitroglycerin

Generic nitroglycerin contains the same active ingredient as brand-name Nitrolingual and is required to meet the same safety, effectiveness, and quality standards. This means it is designed to work in the same way as Nitrolingual. Studies have demonstrated bioequivalence between generic and brand-name Nitrolingual, meaning they have comparable absorption rates and overall effects. However, individual responses to any medication can vary. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, if you have any questions about using generic nitroglycerin.

For more information about generic drug approval and bioequivalence, please visit Access to Generic Drugs in Canada | Canada.ca.

Dosage:

Nitrolingual is available as a nitroglycerin lingual pump spray, with a concentration of 0.4 mg per actuation (spray), and a supply of 200 sprays.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your individual needs.

Usage:

Nitrolingual pump spray contains nitroglycerin, a medicine that helps quickly relieve chest pain (angina). You use it by spraying under your tongue. It’s also used to prevent chest pain before activities that might cause it, like exercise. (source: the product labeling information, https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2018/018705s025lbl.pdf)

Mechanism of Action:
Nitrolingual Pump Spray contains nitroglycerin, a medicine that quickly widens your blood vessels. When you spray it under your tongue, the nitroglycerin is absorbed rapidly and starts to relax your blood vessels, especially the veins, which reduces the amount of blood returning ot the heart (preload). It also helps to relax the arteries, including the coronary arteries supplying your heart muscle, and to a lesser extent, can reduce the resistance the heart pumps against (afterload). Think of it like widening a hose so the water flows more easily with less pressure. By making your heart's job easier, it needs less oxygen. Nitroglycerin may also help to open up the blood vessels supplying your heart muscle. Overall, this helps to relieve chest pain (angina) caused by narrow heart arteries.

Take Nitrolingual exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the instructions in the product monograph in Canada. Consult your doctor for personalized guidance and safe use.

Side Effects:

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before taking Nitrolingual, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects: These are examples of some common side effects of Nitrolingual pump spray, but others are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Headache (nitroglycerin-induced headaches can be intense, especially initially, consult your doctor if they are severe or persistent)
• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Flushing of the face
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

Serious side effects: Stop taking Nitrolingual and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:
• Severe Hypotension
• Reflex Tachycardia
• Severe Headache that us accompanied by other serious symptoms like vision changes, stiff neck, or neurological changes.
• Allergic reactions including rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing
• Methemoglobinemia
• Paradoxical Bradycardia
• Worsening Angina (any chest pain that worsens, or is not relieved by this medication should be treated as a medical emergency)

Contraindications:

The following is a partial list of contraindications. Before taking Nitrolingual, it is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all the medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Nitrolingual (nitroglycerin) is CONTRAINDICATED in the following and should not be used if:
• You have a documented hypersensitivity to nitroglycerin, other organic nitrates, or any inactive ingredients in the formulation.
• You have acute circulatory failure or shock, or severe hypotension (systolic blood pressure < 90 mmHg).
• You have conditions associated with elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) or cerebral hemorrhage.
• You are taking phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil).
• You have severe aortic stenosis, severe mitral stenosis, or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).
• You have clinically significant reduction in oxygen-carrying capacity due to severe anemia.

Drug Interactions

Before taking Nitrolingual, it is essential to discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete and up to date information, refer to the official Nitrolingual prescribing information (package insert): https://www.sanofi.com/assets/countries/canada/docs/products/prescription-products/nitrolingual-pumpspray-pmi-en.pdf

Erectile Dysfunction Pills (like Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, Stendra): These medications (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil) and nitroglycerin both relax your blood vessels. If you take them together, your blood pressure could drop dangerously low, which could be life-threatening. Do not take these medications with Nitroglycerin.

Riociguat (Adempas): This medication also relaxes blood vessels. Just like the erectile dysfunction pills, taking it with nitroglycerin can cause a severe and unsafe drop in blood pressure. Do not take this medication with Nitroglycerin.

Be careful and talk to your doctor about these medications:
• Blood Pressure Medications (like beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs): Nitroglycerin can make these medications work too well, causing your blood pressure to go too low. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage or monitor you closely.
• Heparin (a blood thinner): Nitroglycerin can make heparin less effective at preventing blood clots. Your doctor will need to monitor your blood clotting levels closely.
• Ergotamine (for migraines): Nitroglycerin can counteract the effects of ergotamine. Meaning the ergotamine might not work as well as it should.
• Alcohol: Drinking alcohol while taking nitroglycerin can make your blood pressure drop even lower, making you feel dizzy or faint. It's best to avoid alcohol while using nitroglycerin.
• Aspirin and other NSAIDs (like ibuprofen, naproxen): While some studies have explored potential interactions, aspirin, and other NSAIDs are generally not considered to have a significant impact on the effectiveness of nitroglycerin used for acute angina relief.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

The safety of Nitrolingual during pregnancy and lactation has not been definitively established. You must consult with your doctor to discuss the potential risks and benefits before using this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Frequently Asked Questions about Nitrolingual at Canada Pharmacy Online:

Why is Nitrolingual Pump Spray more affordable from Canada than the United States?

Prescription drug prices, including Tradjenta, are generally lower in Canada than in the US due to a combination of factors, primarily government price regulations, differing market dynamics, and other economic considerations.
