PreserVision Information

PreserVision at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

PreserVision is manufactured by Bausch & Lomb. It is available in several countries worldwide, including Canada.

There is no generic equivalent of PreserVision.

Product Types:

PreserVision is available in the following forms:
• PreserVision AREDS 2: 120 capsules/softgels. The usual dose is 1 capsule taken twice daily (1 in the morning, 1 in the evening with food) or as directed by your doctor.
• PreserVision Omega 3: 120 softgels. The usual dose is 2 softgels taken twice daily (2 in the morning, 2 in the evening with food) or as directed by your doctor.

Usage:

PreserVision is used to help reduce the risk of progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration in people who already have intermediate AMD, or advanced AMD in one eye. It is not intended to treat early AMD with only small deposits (drusen) under the retina, since evidence does not show a meaningful benefit from supplementation at that earlier stage.

How It Works
PreserVision's AREDS2 formula is based on the National Eye Institute's second Age-Related Eye Disease Study, which identified a specific combination of nutrients shown to help slow the progression of intermediate to advanced AMD. The formula supplies high doses of vitamin C and vitamin E, both antioxidants that help protect retinal cells from oxidative damage; zinc and copper, minerals involved in protecting the retina; and lutein and zeaxanthin, two carotenoid pigments naturally concentrated in the macula that act as a filter for harmful blue light and provide additional antioxidant protection. Lutein and zeaxanthin replaced beta-carotene from the original AREDS formula, since beta-carotene was linked to an increased lung cancer risk in smokers.

Take PreserVision exactly as directed on the product packaging or by your doctor. Because the AREDS2 formula contains a very high dose of zinc, take it with food to reduce the chance of stomach upset.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before starting PreserVision, review the full product label and discuss any concerns with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below outlines potential side effects of PreserVision. It is not an exhaustive list, and individual reactions can vary.

Common side effects: These are common side effects of PreserVision; other side effects are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Constipation
• Diarrhea or upset stomach

Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Severe Allergic Reaction: Rash, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat.
• Signs of Copper Deficiency: Unusual fatigue or weakness, which can occur with long-term high-dose zinc supplementation if copper intake is inadequate. PreserVision's formula includes copper specifically to help offset this risk.

Contraindications:

The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. Before starting PreserVision, discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not take PreserVision if:
• Allergies: You have a known hypersensitivity to any capsule ingredients.

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting PreserVision. This is crucial as certain conditions affect the supplement's safety.
• Early-Stage AMD With Only Small Drusen, where the benefit of supplementation is less established.
• Kidney Disease, since the kidneys clear high-dose zinc and copper.

Drug Interactions:

Before taking PreserVision, discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete, up-to-date information, please refer to the product website at https://www.preservision.com/products/areds-2-formula-multivitamin/.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, recreational drugs, and any significant dietary changes, as these may interact with PreserVision. High-dose zinc can reduce the absorption of certain antibiotics, including tetracyclines and some fluoroquinolones, so space these medications apart from PreserVision as your pharmacist directs.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

PreserVision is formulated for adults with age-related macular degeneration and is not typically intended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before starting this supplement.

Use in Children:

PreserVision is intended for adults with age-related macular degeneration, a condition that occurs later in life, and is not intended for use in children.
