Usage

Soltamox (Tamoxifen Citrate) is an antineoplastic medication used to treat estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). It is also used to reduce the chances of breast cancer in high-risk patients or after surgery and radiotherapy. The active ingredient in Soltamox is Tamoxifen Citrate. Tamoxifen Citrate belongs to the class of medication called Estrogen Receptor Antagonist. This medication can block the growth of breast cancer. It works by interfering with the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue.

The common side effects of Soltamox are hot flashes, mood disturbances, vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding, nausea, and fluid retention.

Stop using Soltamox and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• Irregular menstruation or unusual changes in your monthly period;
• Pelvic pain or pressure;
• Severe weakness on one side of the body

Warnings and Interactions

Before using this medication, inform your doctor if you are allergic to it or currently using a similar medication. Soltamox comes as an oral solution, and it should be taken by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily for 5 years. Follow your prescription label carefully, and do not use more than your prescribed dosage. Measure the dose carefully using a special measuring spoon that comes with it. Your doctor may request regular physical exams and mammograms, and it would be best to self-examine your breasts for lumps every month while using Soltamox. Do not miss your medication or clinic appointment. Inform your doctor if you notice abnormal changes in your body or a lump in your breast while using Soltamox medicine.

Before you start using Soltamox, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Blood clotting disorder;
• Deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism;
• Endometriosis or fibroids;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Uterine malignancies

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Soltamox can harm the unborn baby. It would be best if you were on an approved contraceptive while taking Soltamox to avoid getting pregnant. Inform your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Soltamox passes into your breast milk. You should not breastfeed during treatment with Soltamox and for three months after the last dose. There may be a drug interaction between Soltamox and other drugs such as warfarin, anastrozole, and letrozole. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not refrigerate or freeze
