TriniPatch Information

TriniPatch at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

TriniPatch is a brand-name transdermal delivery system developed by Lavipharm, a Greek pharmaceutical group. In Canada, the brand is currently manufactured and marketed by Paladin Labs Inc. In other global markets, distribution rights have historically been held by companies such as Novartis.

A generic equivalent is not currently available through ( this pharmacy).

Dosage:

TriniPatch (nitroglycerin) is available in the following strengths measured by the hourly release rate: 0.2 mg, 0.4 mg, and 0.6 mg.

The patches are designed for once-daily application. Your doctor will determine the appropriate strength based on your chest pain frequency and your response to treatment.

Usage:

TriniPatch (nitroglycerin) is a cardiovascular medication used to prevent anginal attacks (chest pain) in patients with stable coronary artery disease. It is also used to reduce the frequency and severity of exertional chest pain. TriniPatch is a prophylactic (preventative) treatment. Because it releases medication slowly over time, it will not work fast enough to treat an acute angina attack that has already started. For sudden chest pain, use a short-acting nitroglycerin if prescribed.

Mechanism of Action
TriniPatch contains nitroglycerin. Nitroglycerin belongs to a class of drugs called nitrates. Once absorbed through the skin, it is converted into nitric oxide, a potent naturally occurring vasodilator. This chemical signal causes the smooth muscles in the blood vessel walls to relax, widening the veins and arteries.

By dilating the veins, TriniPatch reduces the amount of blood returning to the heart (preload), which lowers the heart's workload. Dilating the arteries improves the supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. This "multi-system" relief helps prevent the oxygen imbalance that leads to chest pain during physical or emotional stress.

If you wear the nitroglycerin patch 24 hours a day, the body develops a tolerance within 24–48 hours, and the drug will completely stop working. To prevent this, wear the patch for 12-14 hours (usually during the day) and remove it for 10-12 hours (usually at night) to allow the body to reset. Use TriniPatch exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the instructions in the product monograph in Canada. Consult your doctor for personalized guidance and safe use.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before starting TriniPatch, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below outlines potential side effects of TriniPatch (nitroglycerin). It is not an exhaustive list, and individual reactions can vary.

Common side effects: These are common side effects of TriniPatch; others are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Dizziness
• Flushing
• Headache
• Skin irritation

Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Fainting or severe dizziness;
• Hypotension (very low blood pressure);
• Signs of an allergic reaction;
• Worsening or more frequent chest

Contraindications:

The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. Before starting TriniPatch, it is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not take TriniPatch/nitroglycerin if:
• Allergies: You are allergic to nitroglycerin or the adhesives used in transdermal patches.
• Increased intracranial pressure: You have a recent head injury or brain hemorrhage.
• PDE5 inhibitors: You are taking medications for erectile dysfunction, such as Sildenafil (Viagra), Tadalafil (Cialis), or Vardenafil (Levitra). Combining these with nitrates can cause a life-threatening drop in blood pressure.
• Severe anemia: Low iron or red blood cell counts can increase heart strain when nitrates are used.

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting TriniPatch. This is crucial as certain conditions affect the drug's safety.
• Closed-angle or narrow-angle glaucoma.
• Low blood pressure: Nitrates may cause fainting in those with naturally low blood pressure.
• Recent heart attack: Special monitoring is required if you have recently suffered a myocardial infarction.

Drug Interactions:

Before using TriniPatch, discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete and up-to-date information, please visit the Health Canada drug portal at https://dhpp.hpfb-dgpsa.ca/dhpp/resource/49993.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, recreational drugs, and any significant dietary changes, as these may interact with TriniPatch. TriniPatch may interact with other medicines, including but not limited to:
• Alcohol: Consumption can significantly increase the risk of dizziness and fainting while wearing the patch.
• Blood Pressure Medications: Beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers can have an additive effect, leading to a drop in blood pressure that is too low.
• Ergot Derivatives: Medications for migraines (such as ergotamine) may counteract the effects of nitroglycerin.
• Riociguat: Used for pulmonary hypertension. Do not use this medicine when using TriniPatch.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Nitroglycerin should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed.

Use in Children:

The safety and effectiveness of TriniPatch in pediatric patients have not been established. Use in children is rare and must be strictly supervised by a pediatric cardiologist.
