Usage

Vaseretic (Enalapril/HCTZ) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure or hypertension is when the force of blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high. This damages your arteries over time and can lead to serious complications like heart attack and stroke. The active ingredient in Vaseretic is Enalapil and HCTZ. Enalapril belongs to a class of drugs called ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow through the body easily. HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics. It works by getting rid of extra salt and water in the body, resulting in an increased amount of urine. HCTZ also relaxes blood vessels for improved blood flow.

The common side effects of Vaseretic are cough, dizziness, dry cough, headache, and lightheadedness.

Stop using Vaseretic and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:

Vaseretic comes as a tablet and should be taken orally (by mouth) as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush the drug. Do not split or chew the tablet. You can use the drug with or without food. Vaseretic can cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Vaseretic to prevent dehydration. Follow your doctor's instructions on the type and amount of liquids you should drink. Get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position to lower your risk of dizziness and lightheadedness. This medicine may impair your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or use machinery until you can safely do so. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes when taking this drug unless your doctor recommends it. Avoid drinking alcohol when using Vaseretic. Alcohol can increase your risk of side effects.

Before you start using Vaseretic, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:

• Become pregnant or nursing a child;

• Have diabetes;
• Have difficulty urinating;
• Have ever had angioedema;
• Have glaucoma;
• Have gout;

Do not breastfeed when using Enalapril/HCTZ. Vaseretic passes into breast milk and can harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Vaseretic and other drugs, such as penicillin, ACE inhibitors, sulfa drugs, diuretics, cancer medicines, lithium, digoxin, insulin, muscle relaxants, cyclosporine, NSAIDs, etc. Do not take Vaseretic 10-25 within 36 hours before or after taking medicine that contains sacubitril.
