Patanol eye drops (Olopatadine) is used to treat itching and redness in the eyes due to allergies. Olopatadine is the active ingredient of this eye drop; Olopatadine belongs to the class of medications called antihistamine. You should not use Patanol if you are allergic to Olopatadine. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor if you have any type of eye infection. Do not use Patanol eye drops while you are wearing contact lenses. Use this medication at least 15 minutes before inserting your contact lenses. Wash your hands before using this medication. Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze a drop into this pocket. Close your eyes for one or two minutes. Do not wear contact lenses while your eyes are red or irritated. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal products and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Olopatadine and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patanol eye drops are not approved for use by anyone younger than 2 years old.
