Product Details

Prilosec (Omeprazole) is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. It may also be used to promote healing of the damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid. Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This medication works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by your stomach and helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus.

The common side effects may include cold symptoms including fever, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or gas. The serious side effects may include:
• Fast or uneven heart rate;
• Muscle spasms;
• Seizures

Do not take Prilosec if you are allergic to Omeprazole or other medications such as albendazole or mebendazole. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Heartburn is often confused with the first symptoms of heart attack. You should get emergency medical attention if you have a chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating and a general ill feeling. It is unknown whether Prilosec will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. This medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not take this medication without talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Answer: The best time to take Omeprazole is 30 minutes or an hour before meals.

2. Can I take Omeprazole and Esomeprazole together?
Answer: It is not recommended to take 2 different proton pump inhibitors, but you can take one of them twice daily to see if that relieves your symptoms.
