Drug name: Truvada
Generic name: Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, Tenvir EM
Use: Human Immundeficiency Virus (HIV)

Truvada is prescribed by doctors for the treatment of patients who have human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV which commonly causes AIDS. Truvada contains two antiviral drugs called emtricitabine and tenofovir, and these drugs work together to prevent the virus cells from multiplying in your blood. This slows down the progression of HIV in the body. Truvada does not cure HIV. It is one of the preferred HIV drugs as only one pill is required daily. Truvada is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, and it specifically works by interfering with the substances that HIV cells need to multiply.
