Usage

Videx (Didanosine) is an anti-viral medication, which can prevent the spread of harmful HIV cells to other parts of the human body. Didanosine belongs to the class of drugs called reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of HIV in the blood. It is commonly prescribed to help with the treatment of HIV; however, it should be noted that this medication is not a cure for either HIV or AIDS.

• Bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• Numbness, tingling, or pain in your hands or feet;
• Signs of problems with the liver or pancreas;
• Vision changes

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Videx if you are allergic to Didanosine or any other ingredients of this medicine. Do not take Videx together with allopurinol, ribavirin, or stavudine.

Videx can also cause severe or life-threatening effects on your liver or pancreas. Call your doctor at once if you have: severe pain in your upper stomach, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice. Certain HIV medications or antibiotics should not be taken at the same time as Videx, such as Ciprofloxacin, Delavirdine or Indinavir, Nelfinavir and Itraconazole or Ketoconazole. Confirm with your doctor the best daily timing of all your current medicines. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Videx is for adults and children at least 2 weeks old.
