Product Details

Otrivin (Xylometazoline) is a decongestant medication used for temporary relief of congestion in the nose caused by various conditions including the common cold, sinusitis, hay fever, and allergies. Otrivin works through its vasoconstrictive properties, meaning it narrows the blood vessels in the lining of the nose, which helps to clear the symptoms of congestion, including inflammation, irritation, and pain. Otrivin is sometimes used to make rhinoscopy (examination of the inside of the nose) easier by reducing any inflammation. Otrivin usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to begin working.

Common side effects of Otrivin include burning and stinging of the nose, dryness of the nose, headache, rebound congestion (worsening congestion as a result of over-using the medication), sneezing, or sleep problems. Contact your doctor if you notice serious side effects such as dizziness, high blood pressure, nausea, irregular heartbeats, or restlessness. If you notice any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Xylometazoline. To make sure Otrivin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had difficulty urinating, heart disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma, overactive thyroid, or diabetes. Avoid use for longer than 5 days, as it may make your congestion symptoms worse. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding in order to discuss any possible risks. Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
